When you are planning a camping trip of more than a single overnight what do you take with you?  Obviously you will need a tent, sleeping bags, extra clothes and some cook ware.  What are you planning on doing after dark?  Are you going to have a camp fire and roast marshmallows or make smores?  If so you are going to need something to sit on that is both comfortable and durable.

Canvas folding chairs are more comfortable and hold up longer that most nylon bag chairs available on the market today.  Another added benefit with canvas folding chairs is that they are more flame resistant than their nylon counterparts.  It may be a bit difficult to find a canvas folding chair in most stores with camping departments.  For example, Dick’s Sporting Goods wit over 400 stores across the country did not have a single canvas folding chair.  They had several models of bag chairs, with and without arms, with and without cup holders, with foot rests and sun covers.  All of these models had seating material that was nylon not canvas.

Northpole is a manufacturer of camp furniture of all price ranges and quality and due to cost reasons they use all synthetic fabrics on their products.  However, they have come up with a synthetic material that looks and feels like canvas at half the material cost.
According to Wikipedia, the actual definition of canvas is a heavy, plain woven fabric made from cotton.  Historically, canvas was made from hemp.

Most canvas folding chairs are actually called director’s chairs and have a higher seat than a comparable folding chair.  Most director’s chairs have a seat height of thirty inches while similar styled “celebrity chairs” look almost exactly the same but are about six inches shorter.  The canvas is removable on the back and can be silk screened with logos or names after the chair has been delivered.

Target has director’s chairs starting at under thirty dollars with replacement canvas available for under twenty dollars.  Another site called foldingchairshop.com has every imaginable configuration of canvas folding chair like beach lounges, beach chairs, director’s chairs and camp chairs.  These chairs range in price from a simple folding stadium seat at about twenty dollars to their two hundred fifty dollar folding wood patio chair.  Canvas folding chairs hold up really well and if the canvas was treated for UV exposure they can last several years outdoors without having to replace the canvas.
